Kiryat Ono City Gates
A skyline, a sculpture, an old restaurant, or even a factory chimney—these and many others signal to our consciousness that we have arrived at a specific place. They place us in space, carrying with them subjective and sometimes collective memory.
The four entrances to Kiryat Ono create a spatial experience in the form of a hill, a field, a cliff, and a forest. These are primary spatial experiences shared by collective memory. Their design stemmed from their values, which align with the history and geography of Kiryat Ono as a settlement in an agricultural environment.
Over the years, the hill with the lone tree in Reisfeld park (central park of Kiryat Ono) has become a local landmark and has embedded itself in the collective memory of the city. It serves as a precedent for the four entrances, which seek to replicate the typology of the tree and hill by adapting them to each entrance site, its urban, intercity context, and its program. This is done while using the formal characteristics and color scheme of the hill with the lone tree.
